My fiance is having my engagement ring made from a family heirloom. It is an antique opal ring with diamonds. I am flattered he would want to give me something so sentimental and can’t wait to wear it! It’s taking awhile for the jeweler to make the ring, and I hate not having a ring to wear. I feel like no one takes this engagement seriously b/c I have no ring (i.e. my parents), and even I don’t feel right not having a ring as we’re making wedding plans. Is it wrong for me to ask for a promise ring in the meantime? A very small diamond promise ring, something around $200 or so. Nothing extravagant. We had discussed a promise ring months ago, but I told him no, and now I’m regretting it. It’s not about how big the stone is or how much he spends, to me it’s just having a ring as a symbol. I would be thrilled with a 1/5 carat diamond that he can buy here in town for just under $200. I’m very proud that we’re engaged and I want to show the world that I’m engaged now.
I’m definitely not a gold digger! I’m looking at a 1/5 carat for cryin’ out loud! I think it’s just the anxiety and excitement and all the emotions going on, and I just can’t wait to look at my ring finger and see a ring. To me, a ring is a symbol of committment. Doesn’t matter what the stone is or how much it’s worth. He knows I can’t wait to wear a ring and he’s just as excited about getting to wear a wedding band. It’s not that I don’t appreciate what he’s doing for me, b/c I do, and I feel incredibly honored he would do something so special for me, that I’ll have a one-of-a-kind ring that no one else in this world will have. Like I said, we’ve talked about this before, and even he isn’t totally thrilled w/me walking around without a ring.
Thank you to those who understand this is really just me being way too excited about being engaged! If we could, we would get married at the JOP tomorrow, but I’ve always wanted a wedding, and he wants to make sure I have that. I’m not a very patient person, as you can tell. But my parents even agree on a small diamond, like 1/5 carat or something. Just something as a physical symbol. I’m not basing or measuring our love by a piece of jewelry, and he knows that.
Oh, respondant #10 you brought up a good point and reminded me of something! Just the other night my fiance and I were talking about how soft and delicate opals are and how I really won’t be able to wear it all the time b/c it could get damaged so easily. I told him I would like to have another ring to wear when we’re on the river or at the beach or something. He seemed to think that was a good idea.

I know she wants a platnum band, she says she doesn’t care about home many diamonds (how many do you think she wants?)

My fiance designed it and had it made by a family friend. The same goldsmith will be making our wedding bands, but I’m having a hard time finding pictures of things I like that will “match” my engagement ring.
I LOVE my ring, it is a .6 carat Canadian diamond with pink sapphire side-stones. It is a trellis setting, so the side view is really pretty too, so I kind of want something that highlights that too.

I really just need lots of suggestions from everyone because I’ve done so many searches online for things that match I’m kind of “burnt out” of ideas.
Really anything that you think would match, plain, with diamonds, eternity, with pink sapphires, classic, antique looking - I’m open to any suggestions because I just need ideas to bring the jeweler to design the band for me.
Thanks Everyone!
You have to click the side view picture on the bluenile.com link to actually see the side view of the trellis setting (the interwoven metal prongs). It’s the second thumbnail view down); it won’t let me link directly to that view.

I currently own a .25 carat solataire engagement ring with a plain band, and a 4 prong setting. We went to look at wedding rings today, and while I found some that were nice, they were all so ‘typical’. I want something unique, that isnt worn by a million other women out there. I would like a little sparkle and diamonds to it, but not too gaudy. I also like the ‘antique’ look, but with my plain flat band, I’m not sure it will look right? Do you have any pictures of a solitaire plain band engagement ring/wedding band sets that look good together, or any ideas of a unique ring to pair with my solitaire? Thanks!

The engagement ring has one large center stone and eight smaller stones, 4 on each side. all round cut. Don’t know what type of wedding band to get to go with it. Help with ideas.

Everyone in my family has a six prong Tiffany setting engagement ring and a plain band wedding ring. My fiance and I want to look for something that is antique, preferably Edwardian or Art deco. I love filigree and things that are simply interesting. I think it will be difficult to find a matching band. Do you think it is okay to just have one ring? Finding the perfect ring is like finding a needle in a haystack. My mom wants him to go out and buy a ring now, but I told her, round diamonds and Tiffany settings are aren’t a dime a dozen, but we are not running out of stock, so we are going to look.
What do you think, Engagement and wedding ring or just one ring?

I’m having trouble finding a unique women’s white gold wedding band. I’d like something that has an antique style or something with an etched design (maybe floral, with vines, or along those lines, but not celtic). Probably nothing with any diamonds or gemstones. It’s got to be completely round, not one that will fit around the engagement ring, because I’ll only be wearing the band to work once we get married. I’m hoping for under $500, but am willing to go a little higher because it is a once in a lifetime thing! Any ideas? Thanks!
